Legend has it that a Chevalier, Bertrand Du Guesclin, stopped at a spring in the town of La Roche-Posay, in the center of France, to quench his thirst. His horse, which suffered from eczema, plunged into the water and came out cured. This is the start of the beautiful story of a water unlike any other...
WATER FOR KINGS
From 1617, the reputation of La Roche-Posay thermal spring water was such that Pierre Milon, doctor to Henry IV and Louis XIII, went there to conduct the first analyses.
NAPOLEON BONAPARTE LAUNCHES A THERMAL HOSPITAL
General Napoleon Bonaparte, on his return from Egypt at the beginning of the 19th century, had a thermal hospital built in the town of La Roche-Posay to treat his soldiers' skin diseases.
THE 1ST THERMAL CENTER OPENS TO THE PUBLIC
Since its opening in 1905, the La Roche-Posay Thermal Center has welcomed over 400,000 patients for the management of skin disorders. Today, a team led by 8 dermatologists work at the center and welcome over 7,500 patients every year, 30% of which are children.
OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED BY DOCTORS
The French Academy of Medicine officially declared the town of La Roche-Posay a Thermal Spa Town and recognized the skin care properties of the La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water.
CREATION OF LABORATOIRES PHARMACEUTIQUES LA ROCHE-POSAY
A French pharmacist, Mr. Rene Levayer, creates the brand “La Roche-Posay Laboratoire Dermatologique”.
Its mission: developing skin care products to be used and recommended by dermatologists for their patients.

CREATION OF THE LA ROCHE-POSAY FOUNDATION

La Roche-Posay launches in the USA
After expanding from France to Europe, La Roche-Posay launches in the USA with a similar mission: providing dermatologists with effective skin care solutions for their patients, safe even for sensitive skin.
At that time, La Roche-Posay skin care products were available exclusively in dermatologists’ offices.
ANTHELIOS SX REVOLUTIONIZES THE SUNSCREEN MARKET
The FDA authorizes the distribution of Anthelios SX with Mexoryl SX™, the only sun filter in a sunscreen formula protecting against both short and long UVA rays. To allow consumers to easily access this innovative sunscreen, La Roche-Posay’s products becomes available in drugstores across the USA.
La Roche-Posay creates Cell-Ox Shield
For the first time La Roche-Posay combines sun filters with antioxidants in a sunscreen, providing protection against both UV rays and free radicals caused by the sun – known to accelerate skin aging.
Anthelios sunscreens with Cell-Ox Shield are born.
CREATION OF SOS SAVE OUR SKIN
La Roche-Posay introduces SOS “Save Our Skin”, an annual public service campaign with the mission to inform the public about the dangers of sun exposure and the importance of protecting your skin from UV rays. So far, over 8,000 mole screenings have been performed by over 200 volunteer dermatologists.
La Roche-Posay launches EFFACLAR DUO
For the first time La Roche-Posay combines Benzoyl Peroxide acne medication with its exclusive Lipo-Hydroxy Acid (LHA) an effective yet gentle micro-exfoliating agent.
EFFACLAR DUO Dual Action Acne Treatment is born. In only 10 days, its formula is proven to reduce acne by up to 60%, while being suitable for even sensitive skin.
Creation of DERMATOLOGIST FROM THE HEART
La Roche-Posay launches Dermatologist From The Heart, which helps fund a local project every year to enable a dermatologist to make a change in his or her community, whether through making treatments more accessible, training practitioners in underprivileged areas or preventing the on-set of skin conditions.
CREATION OF LA ROCHE-POSAY DERM CLASS
With a mission to bring dermatological care & advice to all, La Roche-Posay hosted its first ever DermClass. Now offered several times a year, the event is hosted in partnership with a board-certified dermatologist to bring public awareness to various skin conditions such as acne, eczema, sensitive skin and more, through an audience of editors and journalists.
LA ROCHE-POSAY LAUNCHES PREBOITIC SKINCARE
After 7 years of pioneering research on the Skin Microbiome, La Roche-Posay launches its prebiotic facial skincare line. This line of gentle cleansers and moisturizers was rooted in the insight that a component of healthy skin is a balanced skin microbiome.
LA ROCHE-POSAY EXPANDS ITS PREBIOTIC RANGE TO BODY & ECZEMA CARE
As the #1 body care brand in European Pharmacies, La Roche-Posay launched the Lipikar franchise of body care for dry, extra dry, and eczema-prone skin. The line is accepted by the National Eczema Association and is suitable for babies, children and adults. Lipikar Balm AP+ is even suitable for babies as young as two weeks.
LA ROCHE-POSAY PARTNERS WITH THE AMERICAN CHILDHOOD CANCER ORGANIZATION
La Roche-Posay joins forces with Childhood Cancer International and the American Childhood Cancer Organization to support programs, education, and resources for families with children going through cancer to help them cope with the emotional side effects of cancer treatment.
